At least 11 children died after a boat capsized in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday, a local police official said.

According to Mir Rauf, a local police official, so far all the dead recovered from the Tanda Dam lake near Kohat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were between the ages of seven and 14.

Rauf said that 11 children have been rescued from the water, out of which six are in critical condition. The boat was carrying between 25 and 30 students on a day trip from a local seminary when it capsized.

Rescue operation is going on.

Large-scale sinkings are common in Pakistan, when older and overloaded ships lose their stability and throw passengers into the water.

Many people in the country do not know how to swim, especially women who are deprived of learning due to conservative social attitudes. All of their covering clothes also lose weight once they are shed.

In July, 18 women drowned when a boat carrying a wedding party across the Indus River capsized in Punjab province.
