Eight terrorists, including a local commander, were killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in South Waziristan’s Shinwarsk area, the army’s media wing said on Wednesday.
The development comes as security forces have stepped up operations against militants across the country following a recent surge in terrorist activities.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said terrorists – including Commander Jan Muhammad alias Chirag – were killed in a fierce exchange of fire during the operation.
But during the exchange of fire, 31-year-old Sepoy Hamid Rasool, a resident of Rawalpindi, fought bravely and was martyred. According to the ISPR, four personnel including two officers were injured.

According to ISPR, arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the slain terrorists. Terrorists were active in terrorist activities against security forces and killing of innocent civilians.
The statement said that the security forces of Pakistan are committed to end the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers strengthen our resolve.
