At least nine people lost their lives in a tragic accident in Thatta on Tuesday, JEE News reported on Wednesday.
The tragedy took place in Chaliya area of Thatta where a truck and a van collided resulting in the death of nine passengers in the van, according to a police report. Eight people died on the spot while one succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
According to the police, all the passengers who died were residents of Karachi. Police said they were going to Kenjhar Lake for a picnic.
According to police officials, the deceased belonged to Qazafi Town area of Karachi. The deceased include Abdul Wahab, Abdullah, Tasbihullah, Noor Al Wahab and Adnan. Their bodies were first taken to the civil hospital in Makkale.
Rescue sources said that the bodies were later shifted to Karachi, where six of them were handed over to their respective bereaved families. However, the remaining three bodies are yet to be identified and have been shifted to the mortuary for further examination.
The truck driver involved in the accident managed to escape from the spot, police are investigating further.
According to a friend of the deceased, Abdullah had gone to Saudi Arabia to meet his family and celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. Speaking to JEE News outside Edhi morque, he said that all the deceased were friends.
Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Kamran Tesuri has expressed grief over the Thatta tragedy and has demanded the Hyderabad Commissioner to provide a detailed report of the incident.
Governor Tesori has directed the authorities to ensure that all necessary medical facilities are provided to those injured in the accident.
