JEE News reported on Friday that Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belgium Dr. Asad Majeed Khan has been appointed Foreign Secretary.
Asad Majeed, who was Pakistan’s ambassador to the US during the PTI regime when former Prime Minister Imran Khan accused Washington of conspiring against his government, is a BS-22 officer in the Foreign Service. He is also Ambassador to the European Union and Luxembourg.

The notification issued by the Establishment Division asked that Majeed be notified as Foreign Secretary immediately and till further orders.
“Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, a BS-22 officer of Pakistan’s Foreign Service, currently posted as Ambassador at Pakistani Embassies in Belgium, European Union and Luxembourg, has been transferred as Secretary, Foreign Affairs Division with immediate effect. And till further orders,” the notification said.
Ambassador Johar Saleem to Italy was appointed as Acting Foreign Secretary at a time when the Foreign Office was unable to finalize and agree on a name for the permanent Foreign Secretary.
He was chosen by former Foreign Secretary Sohail Mehmood in his last official act.
Who is Ambassador Asad Majeed?
Majeed is a career Foreign Service Officer and has been appointed as the 31st Foreign Secretary of Pakistan.
During his diplomatic career spanning 34 years, the Ambassador has held several important diplomatic responsibilities. He served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to America, Japan, Additional Foreign Secretary (USA), Director General (USA), Director General (West Asia), Charge d’Affaires ad interim of Pakistan in America, Deputy Chief of Mission. . Embassy of Pakistan, Washington DC, Additional Secretary (External Affairs) in the President’s Secretariat, Director General (United Nations), and Minister Counselor in the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations.
Majeed holds a Doctorate in International Economic and Business Law (LLD) from Kyushu University, Japan and has been a resource person in several academic institutions.
He is married and has two children.
