LAHORE: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Saturday that Muslim League (Q) leader Chaudhry Munis Elahi’s statement regarding the advice of former Army Chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa on the narrative of the army being “apolitical”. Doubts have been created and should be clarified.

Speaking to the media in Lahore this morning, Sanaullah said, “General Bajwa has retired after completing his full term, no matter his merits or demerits”.
He said that the former army chief maintained the narrative before the nation on behalf of the institution that he had nothing to do with politics.
“Now, Mons Elahi’s statement casts doubt on the institution’s narrative, so it must be clarified,” Sanaullah said.
The minister added that the government and the nation are confident that the commitment made by the military leadership and institution to the nation is “genuine” and “honorable”.
He said that the organization will fulfill its national duty in the service of the country under this commitment so that politics moves forward and matters are in favor of the country.
‘No decision taken on no-confidence motion in Punjab’
Talking about the possibility of presenting a no-confidence motion against Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Sanaullah said that no final decision has been taken on it.
He said that the stakeholders held a meeting on Friday and another meeting will be held today and the advice of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif will be taken.
“I personally think that if the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies are dissolved, we should keep the federal government in place,” he said, adding that the assemblies in Sindh and Balochistan will remain intact as both governments have Refused to dissolve.
He said that whether there are by-elections or general elections in Punjab, the ruling coalition will be in a better position.
Economic crisis
Moving towards the economic crisis, the federal minister admitted that the current government has failed to reduce inflation.
Sanaullah vowed to curb inflation in the coming days, saying, “The destruction that Imran’s [Khan] government has brought, [we] have only managed so far.”
He further said that the facts will be brought forward when the election comes.
“We will tell [the public] that this disaster happened not in six months but in three years. I hope the nation will believe us,” he said.
He said that “people will listen to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif when he leads the election campaign. It is certain that Nawaz Sharif will come back when Punjab assembly or general elections are held”.
‘Theft of watches is a disgrace to the country and the nation’
Sanaullah criticized PTI Chairman Imran Khan and said that he defamed the country and the nation by stealing the clocks of Tosha Khana.
He said that Imran Khan will have to go behind bars for his dark deeds.
Besides, the federal minister said that in politics, we have to work together because there can be no progress without discussions and negotiations.
He, however, said that there were no backdoor links with Elahi of the ruling coalition and if there were any talks with the PML-Q leader, it would be made public.
