ISLAMABAD: Google has not yet restored downloading of applications purchased by mobile operators in Pakistan. However, paid applications can be purchased by credit or debit card payment.

JEE News reported that the Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) procedure for downloading applications purchased from Google through mobile phones has been restored for a month despite the government’s instructions to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). Not done.

The system will be restored within five to 10 days as the stuck payments will be made through the designated bank and take some time to process, JEE News reported.

A government official said that Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Syed Aminul Haq was supposed to contact SAPM regarding Finance Tariq Bajwa on Friday and ask him to restore the DCB procedure as soon as possible. The request for expediting had to be made because customers were “anxiously waiting for it to be reinstated. The old payment system”.

Some users have contacted this author and shown messages they received from him with instructions to enter credit or debit card information to download applications purchased from Google.

The government official said they expect the old payment system to be restored within a period of seven to 10 days. He added that Google had already announced that the purchased application can be downloaded through credit/debit card from December 1, 2022, so the decision was implemented for Pakistani users.

The government will now have to implement its orders to restore DCB payment, allowing mobile operators to pay for downloading apps purchased on their mobile phones with the balance amount.
