Pakistan is confirming reports of Daesh’s claim of attack on Pakistani embassy in Kabul

The Foreign Office (FO) said on Sunday that it was confirming reports that claimed that a branch of the banned group Daesh in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was behind the terrorist attack on Pakistan’s mission in Afghanistan.

“We have seen reports that IS-KP has claimed responsibility for the December 2, 2022 terrorist attack on the Pakistani embassy compound. Independently and in consultation with Afghan authorities, we have confirmed the truth of these reports. Confirming,” said a Foreign Office spokesperson. a statement.

The spokesman said the attack was “another reminder of the threat posed by terrorism to peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region”.

“We must act resolutely with all our collective might to defeat this menace. On its part, Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to combat terrorism,” the spokesperson said.

On Sunday, JEE News reported that Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on Telegram via a channel linked to the militant group.

ISIS claimed that the attack was carried out by two of its members who were armed with “medium and sniper weapons” and were targeting the ambassador and his guards who were in the embassy courtyard.

Suspect involved in attack ‘arrested’
A day ago, sources told JEE News that the suspect involved in the murderous attack on Pakistan’s Head of Mission Obaidur Rehman Nizamani in Kabul has been arrested.

According to diplomatic sources, the suspect was residing on the eighth floor of a nearby building and had planted an improvised explosive device in three rooms of the same floor.

When the Afghan security personnel arrived at the building, the suspect tried to escape but was arrested.

Security officials also recovered an AK-47 rifle, a long-range automatic rifle, a sniper rifle and other weapons from the suspect’s possession.

Diplomatic sources further told JEE News that the police have also arrested another accused.

On Friday, Nizmani escaped an assassination attempt after coming under attack targeting the head of mission at the embassy compound in Kabul. However, a security guard soldier Asrar Muhammad was injured in the attack while protecting the diplomat.

The guard has been shifted to Peshawar for treatment.

Bilawal received call from Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs
After the attack, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari received a call from acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

Reiterating Afghanistan’s firm commitment to fight terrorism, Foreign Minister Muttaqi assured the Foreign Minister that the Afghan government will bring those responsible for this heinous attack to justice as soon as possible.

While Foreign Minister Bilawal demanded the Afghan government to stop terrorists from spoiling the relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
