Twitter CEO Elon Musk on Friday announced the removal of nearly 1.5 billion ghost accounts from the microblogging website due to their inactivity.
Taking to Twitter, the billionaire said: “Twitter will soon start clearing the name space of 1.5 billion accounts.”
However, the Tesla and SpaceX owner clarified that only accounts with “no tweets and no logins for years” would be deleted.

“These are obvious accounts that have no tweets and haven’t logged in for years,” Musk wrote on Twitter.

Musk, who took ownership of Twitter in October, has announced a number of changes to the website – some of which have been heavily criticized by users.
A day earlier, Twitter planned to change the price of its Twitter Blue subscription product from $7.99 to $11 if paid through its iPhone app and if paid on the Web, according to JEE News, citing a report by JEE News. $7 if paid on site.
The move was likely a pushback against Apple’s 30 percent cut on any payments made by users through apps on the iOS operating system, the report said.
Lower prices on the website are also likely to drive more users to the platform as opposed to signing up on their iPhones, the report said. It did not say whether there will be a price change for the Android platform as well.
Musk is planning to launch the microblogging site’s verified service with different colored checks for individuals, companies and governments after an initial launch sees an increase in users impersonating celebrities and brands on the platform. happened
Musk listed various grievances with Apple in a series of tweets last week, including the 30 percent fee the iPhone maker charges software developers for in-app purchases.
He also posted a meme suggesting he was willing to “go to war” with Apple rather than pay a commission.
Musk later met with Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook at the company’s headquarters and later tweeted that the misconception about Twitter had been removed from Apple’s App Store.
