Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Hussain Barham Taha along with a five-member delegation arrived in Islamabad on Saturday on a three-day official visit.

This visit on the invitation of Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be Taha’s first visit to the country after assuming office in November 2021.

They will meet at the delegation level to discuss other issues on the agenda of the OIC, including Jammu and Kashmir, Islamophobia and the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

OIC Secretary General will meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his visit and will also visit Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Secretary General of OIC will also meet the Minister of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, Minister of Information Technology and Minister of Commerce.

Taha’s visit will enable an exchange of views on how the OIC can further mobilize itself to meet the aspirations of the 1.9 billion Muslims it represents.

According to the Foreign Office, the bilateral talks will also be “an opportunity to discuss important issues of economic, social and technical cooperation among OIC member countries”.

It added that as a founding member of the OIC, Pakistan would continue efforts to promote Islamic solidarity, unity and dialogue in the organization.

The FO added that as the head of the Council of Foreign Ministers, Pakistan has worked to fully activate the peace and security structures of the OIC to resolve disputes and conflicts and to strengthen Afghanistan’s support. An OIC Trust Fund has been established to deliver humanitarian aid.

Further, it was highlighted that Pakistan played a leadership role in combating the heinous trend of Islamophobia and promoting cooperation among OIC member countries in the areas of trade, commerce, food security, science and technology.
