Earlier this week, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Atta Bandyal directed the formation of a special JIT to probe the murder of Arshad Sharif.

On December 7, a 5-member larger bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Bandyal, heard the suicide notice of Arshad Sharif in Kenya. The Ministry of Interior has submitted a fact-finding report to the court.

Fact Finding Report
A fact-finding committee set up by the government to investigate and find out the facts of Arshad Sharif’s murder has hinted at foreign involvement in the “premeditated” killing of the senior media personality.

Sharif was shot dead by the police in the African country on October 23 under mysterious circumstances.

Local authorities claimed the journalist was killed in a case of mistaken identity, prompting an investigation by Kenya’s Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), whose report has yet to be released.

A fact-finding team headed by Athar Waheed of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Umar Shahid Hamid of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) traveled to Kenya to gather information about the incident.

Sharif fled Pakistan citing threats to his life after multiple treason cases were filed against him.

The fact-finding report said that the bullet that hit Arshad Sharif in the chest from behind does not match the pattern of firing.

“One bullet hit him in the upper back, about 6 to 8 inches below the neck and exited the other side (chest). It is not difficult to infer from the wound that it was a close-range shot, while the angle shot from, it should have pierced the car seat as well.
