JEE News reported on Sunday that the latest political developments show the strained relationship between Gujarat’s Chaudhrys and Sharifs.
Moreover, there are reports that the ties between the Chaudhry brothers – Chief Minister Punjab Pervaiz Elahi and former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain – are recovering to a certain level that could pave the way for some new political alliances with political opponents.
Shujaat factions in the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have swung into action to bring about internal change in Punjab, sources said, amid claims that Six members of PML-Q Parvez are ready to join Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) bloc.
An important development took place on Saturday when Investment Board Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain held an important meeting with Muslim League-N leader Nawaz Sharif in London. The two leaders discussed the political situation in Punjab and the announcement by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf to dissolve the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies.
Talking to the media after meeting Nawaz, Salik said that the ousted prime minister did not tell him the exact date of his return to Pakistan. He said that Shujaat will lead the campaign of Muslim League (Q) in the next general elections. He said that PML-Q leader Munis Elahi did not trust PTI chief Imran Khan to join the bloc. Salik added that Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and I are ready to talk to Munis Elahi if he wants.
According to the sources, Muslim League (N) has expressed its willingness to recognize Pervez Musharraf as the Chief Minister and has also conditionally demanded new elections of PTI. Sources said that PML-N is in close contact with Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. As soon as Shujaat gets something concrete, PML-N will move forward with its strategy.
Pervez, Shujaat are in touch again.
Moreover, he added that Parvez and Shujaat are also in touch again. However, no political talks have been reported between them so far. Monis also revealed on Saturday that Chief Minister Punjab and Shujaat are in touch again. Talking to journalists online at the Chief Minister’s House, he said that he has not met his uncle Shujaat since the day he went to meet the Assembly.
Sources said with reference to Monis that there will be no compromise on the demand for snap polls and what PTI Chairman Imran Khan says will happen. He said that the solution to the current political situation is elections.
According to sources, Monis said that his party will stand with PTI in future. “Some people don’t want PTI and PML-Q to go together,” he said, adding that his father wanted to stay with Khan for a long time.
According to sources, Monis said that all decisions were taken after consultation. He added that we have never done anything that would affect the politics or honor of Imran Khan as he is our benefactor.
‘double game’
On the other hand, regarding the party’s stand, sources said that PML-N does not want Parvez’s “double game”. “He [Punjab Chief Minister] will have to come out [what is on his mind].
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah told JEE News that Shujaat was an ally of the coalition parties and it is not uncommon for both sides to meet. The minister said that we do not want a double game like before.
PML-N sources also say that in case of dissolution of the assemblies, Nawaz Sharif will be requested to return to Pakistan immediately. Party sources say that Nawaz Sharif will be welcomed at the airport.
