LAHORE: While there are reports of disagreement among lawmakers, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday decided to dissolve the Punjab Assembly in the first phase, while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will be dissolved later. will be given.
Sources familiar with the matter said that the decision to dissolve the provincial assemblies and resign from the National Assembly was taken in a meeting of the members of the assembly belonging to Rawalpindi division presided over by PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
Initially, the Punjab Assembly would be dissolved, the meeting decided that party members were divided over the plan and were insisting on delaying the dissolution of the assemblies.
PTI Secretary General Asad Umar had earlier admitted that some members of the party were against the move and asked for a delay.
Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi also reportedly informed Imran Khan about the opinion of Muslim League (Q) on the issue and advised him to be very careful before taking a final decision.
However, the PTI is adamant and has warned the government to give a date for elections by December 20 or else they will dissolve the assemblies but the government has refused to budge.
Sources added that the plan to turn the nationwide protest movement into an election campaign was also endorsed in a meeting with the Rawalpindi members on Monday.
He said that it was decided in the meeting that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will be dissolved in the second phase.
“All the members from Rawalpindi have confirmed to leave the National Assembly.”
The legislators said that the country was going through the worst economic crisis, adding that transparent elections were the only way out of this quagmire.

Meanwhile, in a video address on Monday, Imran Khan said the only solution to the ongoing “dangerous” economic situation in the country is to hold early elections.
Khan said, “This could be the biggest economic crisis this country has ever witnessed […] The media houses that were supposed to inform people about the ongoing economic crisis are not doing their job. are.”
The former prime minister said that he was not only addressing the nation, but he was also addressing the institutions as the economic downturn would affect the entire country.
Khan said that when the PTI government rolled out the National Security Policy (NSP), it mentioned that despite the former Soviet Union’s armed forces being the strongest in the world, the state had to face economic conditions. Couldn’t save from destruction.
The former prime minister said the judiciary should play its role as it would also be “responsible” if the economy worsened. “Also, I am surprised at the silence of the business community.”
Khan said that amid the ongoing crisis, small and large businesses have been affected the most. He further said that the exports are also decreasing gradually.
“The business community should ask why overseas Pakistanis are not sending remittances. During our time, remittances, textile exports, tax collections were all at record highs,” he said.
