OSLO: Norway’s foreign ministry on Tuesday complained to Twitter that the organization representing Nigeria was labeled in an apparent mix-up of the two countries’ names.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahrstoer’s Twitter account was also tagged as representing Nigeria, as was Foreign Minister Annekin Hatfield’s.

“Dear @TwitterSupport, As much as we enjoy our excellent bilateral relations with Nigeria and our close proximity to the alphabet, we would greatly appreciate it if you could label us as Norway,” the Norwegian ministry said. Foreigner tweeted.

Twitter places labels and small flag icons on some accounts to indicate affiliation with governments.

Government accounts (administrative accounts, elected or appointed officials, and multilateral organizations), some political organizations such as political parties, commercial companies including business partners, major brands, media outlets and publishers, and some other public figures have an official profile. The position is given.

Labels on state-affiliated profiles provide users with more information about accounts held by specific state-affiliated media organizations and individuals closely associated with those organizations.

Government labels apply to accounts from key countries where Twitter is active that are heavily involved in geopolitics and diplomacy.

“These labels also contain information about the country the account is associated with and whether it is run by a government representative or a state-affiliated media outlet. Additionally, a small flag icon is added. , which indicates the account’s status as a government. account or a podium for state-affiliated media,” the social media site said.

Despite warnings from Twitter’s own trust and safety officials, the microblogging platform’s “Twitter Blue” subscriptions went live, JEE News reported.

After that, several “verified” accounts started impersonating well-known personalities or brands.

A fake Twitter account of the pharmaceutical corporation “Eli Lilly” has also surfaced. He said that insulin is now free.

This drove many advertisers away from the platform, JEE News said. Musk quickly abandoned the $7.99 service after it was introduced.

According to a tweet from Musk, any account that tries to impersonate someone else will be disabled, unless the account owner admits it is a parody account.

Regarding the current approach to multi-color authentication, Musk called it “painful, but necessary.”

He said a “lengthy explanation” of how the system would work would come out “next week”.
