Azam Swati was transferred to Islamabad after cases in Sindh were declared C class

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday ordered that no further case be registered in the province against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati in the controversial tweets case.

At the beginning of the hearing, Sindh Police Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon apologized to the court for his comments during the previous appearance.

Meanwhile, Sindh Prosecutor General Faiz Shah told the Sindh High Court that the custody of Azam Swati has been handed over to the Islamabad Police. He added that the cases registered against the senator have been classified under the “C Class” category.

“All petitions are now ineffective,” the public prosecutor said, adding that the cases were filed by private citizens.

He further said that according to the law, the statement of these persons should have been recorded.

On this, Justice Karim Khan Agha praised the Sindh government and IG Memon for solving the problem.

The court directed that no further FIR should be registered against Azam Swati. It added that multiple cases were registered against Swati in different parts of the province on the same charge.

The court also directed that the C class report should also be submitted to the concerned courts within three days.

The court then disposed of the petitions filed by Usman Swati, the son of the PTI senator.

Azam Swati transferred to Islamabad
Meanwhile, sources told Geo News that Azam Swati has been transferred to Islamabad and taken into police custody. He added that the senator was brought to the capital by a special plane from Sukkur.

34 cases registered against Swati in Sindh
Speaking to the media after the hearing, Azam Swati’s lawyer Anwar Mansoor Khan told the media that 34 cases have been registered against his client in Sindh and now all of them have been placed in C class.

Khan said the C-class classification meant that FIRs were no longer effective. He further said that he pleaded before the court that the cases against his client be quashed through judicial process.

“Judicial procedure requires that these cases be dealt with by the respective judicial magistrate.” The lawyer added that the police will now submit a fresh report before the concerned magistrate.

SHC restrained police from arresting Swati in further cases.
Earlier this week, the SHC barred the provincial police from arresting Senator Swati in further cases and also consolidated two petitions filed by his son Usman, seeking to quash all the cases. was demanded.

During the hearing of the petition, a bench of the Sindh High Court headed by Justice Karim Khan Agha directed the Prosecutor General Sindh (PGS) to submit a reply to the court by December 15.

The court also issued notices to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon and PGS.

The court also directed the IGP to submit a detailed report of the cases registered against Azam Swati in the province.

Swati was detained by the Sindh Police last week in two cases registered in Wara and Qamber police stations after the Balochistan High Court ordered to drop all cases against her.

Controversial tweets cases
Several cases were registered across the country for Swati’s controversial tweets against military officials.

He was first arrested in October in connection with a controversial tweet, when he posted a hateful and threatening message against the army chief, judiciary and other state institutions on his official Twitter account.

In this case, the senator got bail.

But on November 27, the Federal Investigation Agency arrested him once again for using foul language against senior military officers, including the then Army Chief.
