Before Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan announced the date of dissolution of assemblies, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi held an important meeting in Rawalpindi.
Chief Minister Elahi went to Rawalpindi on Friday evening where he held an important meeting. After returning to Lahore at night, he consulted the party leaders on the current political situation. According to sources, the PML-Q leader also took Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain into confidence.
This development has come at a time when the PTI chief is going to announce the date of dissolution of the Punjab Assembly today. In this regard, he had several meetings with Parvez Elahi and Monis Elahi.
Sources say that Pervaiz Elahi does not want to dissolve the Punjab Assembly. He also argued that the assemblies should not be dissolved now as it would lead to complications and the matter should be reconsidered later.
Meanwhile, according to sources, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is consulting Parvez Elahi on national affairs. On the other hand, MNA Salik Hussain, son of Chaudhry Shujaat, met Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Nawaz Sharif in London and conveyed Chaudhry Shujaat’s message to him.
PML-N has expressed its willingness to recognize Parvez Elahi as its Chief Minister. However, the ruling party is waiting for a concrete response from Chaudhry Shujaat.
Sources say that Parvaiz Elahi opposed the dissolution of the assembly after the important meeting in Rawalpindi. He suggested Imran Khan to avoid haste in dissolving the assemblies.
Assuming the provincial assembly is not dissolved with the support of the Muslim League (N), Imran Khan will be left with the option of asking his party’s legislators to resign from the assembly.
Earlier in the week, Imran Khan had said that he would announce the date of dissolution of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab assemblies on December 17.
Monis meeting with Imran
A few hours before the important meeting of the Chief Minister in Rawalpindi, PML-Q leader Monis Elahi met Imran Khan. He told the PTI leader that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government may target the PTI and Muslim League (Q) leadership if the assemblies are dissolved.
“You are authorized to take the final decision [on the dissolution of the assembly],” Elahi relayed Pervez Elahi’s message to the PTI chairman, according to informed sources.
The PML-Q leader assured the former prime minister that the assembly would be dissolved whenever the latter said so. However, Elahi advised that this was not the right time for judgment.
The PML-Q leader informed Khan that the majority of his party’s legislators wanted the continuation of development work in their respective areas.
Imran Khan says he will dissolve the assemblies.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan has made up his mind and has indicated his intention to dissolve the assemblies if the federal government fails to announce a date for early elections.
On 14 December, Khan made his mind known after holding back-to-back consultations with his party leadership.
In his address to the nation through a video link, Imran Khan said that he will announce the date of dissolution of both assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on December 17.
“Once we dissolve the two assemblies, we will hold elections in the provinces. Also, our 123-125 members of the National Assembly – whose resignations have not been accepted – will be the speaker within the assembly,” Khan said. will ask to accept his resignation,” Khan said.
