Karachi Police Chief advised citizens not to resist robbers during robbery.

Additional Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Udho on Friday appealed to the people of Karachi not to resist robbers, talking about the recent incident of firing in which a youth was killed during a robbery when he resisted. went.

The Karachi Police Chief also claimed the arrest of one of the two robbers who shot dead Bilal Nasir, a 21-year-old student of NED University of Engineering and Technology. He was an engineering student in the Petroleum Technology Department.

Bilal was shot dead in Mobina Town police station limits when he resisted two robbers who tried to take away his mobile phone.

During the robbery bid, he managed to catch a robber but the robber opened fire at close range. The young man was shot in the chest and leg, from which he died on the spot. He was the youngest of four brothers and lived in Dastgir society in the Federal B area.

While addressing the funeral, Bilal’s brother lamented that people in the city are not safe from robbers who kill them just for the sake of mobile phones.

After the incident, the Karachi Police Chief formed an investigation team headed by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of District East. With the help of CCTV footage and other evidence, the police team raided the Afghan Basti area on Friday morning, where after an exchange of fire, one of the accused, Nizamuddin, was arrested with injuries, while his accomplice managed to escape. .

Later, during a media briefing, Javed Alam Odhu said that the police will soon arrest the other accused. He said that Nizamuddin was a teenager and he lived in Jamali Goth. He further said that the accused was Afghan and was staying illegally in Karachi.

According to the Karachi Police Chief, the accused was previously arrested by the Site Super Highway Police in October in an injured state, but he got bail within 10 days and started criminal activities again.

A District East police official said Nizamuddin was arrested within 11 hours of the murder. He further said that the weapon used in the incident has also been recovered from the accused, who has also admitted his involvement in other crimes.

Increasing incidence of sexual abuse
During his press briefing, the Karachi Police Chief also spoke about the increasing incidents of sexual assault on children. He said that during the last two months there has been an increase in such incidents and in some of them children have been killed after being raped.

Odho said 22 cases of sexual assault on children were reported between November and December, four of which involved killing children after being raped. He further said that Karachi Police has arrested 21 suspects involved in 19 reported incidents, the remaining three cases are under investigation.

In this year, 251 cases of sexual assault on children were reported in which 10 children were killed. A total of 233 accused involved in 225 such incidents were arrested.

Karachi Police Chief said that it is the duty of the police to arrest the criminals involved in such incidents and bring them to justice. However, he added that parents should also be cautious in this regard as it has been observed that many such crimes involve a close acquaintance who is not feared by the children.

Children should be taught which parts of their body should not be touched by anyone except their parents, the officer said. He added that parents should make their children aware of the dangers in the society from an early age.

Statistics for 2022
Regarding robberies and street crime in Karachi, Odhu remarked that the situation of robberies, robberies and street crime in 2022 remained “stable” with an overall increase of 7 percent.

He said that there has been a 15% reduction in the number of home robberies. He said that so far in 2022, 518 people were seriously injured or killed during street crime, but in 2021, this number remained at 522.

He said that 118 robbers were killed and 937 injured in 825 police encounters during anti-crime operations. A total of 229 suspects, 82 extortionists and 44 kidnappers were arrested. 7,036 drug dealers and 2,043 gutka dealers were also arrested and a total of 175 kg of heroin, ice and other drugs and 9000 kg of hashish were recovered.

He said that if the country’s economic situation, unemployment and other factors are taken into consideration, the crime situation in Karachi was not as bad as it is generally shown.

At the end of the press briefing, the Karachi Police Chief appealed to the citizens not to resist the robbers.
