The French Football Federation has confirmed that a number of France players have contracted the flu, with Raphael Varane and Ibrahim Konate the latest to fall ill and miss training.

Defender Davit Apamacano and midfielder Adrien Rabiot were unavailable for Wednesday’s semi-final win over Morocco due to illness.

Striker Randall Kolo Miwani said the victims were isolated in their rooms.

France will face Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday at 15:00 GMT.

Kulu Miwani said that those who are sick stay in their rooms. “They are being looked after by doctors and we are enforcing social distancing. We are very strict about it.”

Forward Ousmane Dembele agreed, saying the squad was “not scared” of the virus: “We are taking precautions and I think everyone will be ready.”

Boss Didier Deschamps said on Wednesday that he expected Upamecano and Rabiot to be fit enough for the final.

However, if Connett and Varane are ruled out, he will have a selection problem as he will be without two of his top three defenders.
