Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Sunday praised Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) supremo Nawaz Sharif’s “political wisdom” towards his younger brother and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Elahi, who is also a leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and an ally of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), said this during an interview to a private TV channel.
Informed sources have revealed that earlier today, senior leader of Muslim League (Q) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has been entrusted with the task of preventing the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly by the Imran Khan-led PTI.
This development has taken place after Prime Minister Shehbaz’s meeting with the main leader of Muslim League (Q), after which Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari met with both the leaders.
During the interview, Pervaiz Elahi gave credit for the construction of the motorways to three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif, saying: “The opposition should be given the credit it deserves.”
In response to a question, Chief Minister Punjab clearly said that he cannot stand with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. To another question, Elahi said that Imran Khan was not ready to make Munis Elahi a minister, adding that he was given the slot when he helped PTI win seats in the Senate.
99% people against dissolution of assemblies
Chief Minister Punjab said that 99 percent of the people of the country want the assemblies not to be dissolved.
“Before Imran Khan’s announcement yesterday, I told him to first decide what you will give us [PML-Q],” he added.
Elahi further said that he suggested to Khan that he should form his own negotiating committee comprising Asad Umar, Parvez Khattak and Sabatin Khan.
The Muslim League (Q) leader also reiterated that he had signed the summary of dissolution of the Punjab Assembly and handed it over to the PTI chairman about a month ago. The chief minister added that he asked Khan to forward the summary whenever he wanted.
Elahi added that he had proposed to dissolve the assemblies after 12 days, but the ousted prime minister persisted for six days. Elahi hoped that Chaudhry Shujaat would support him.
‘General Bajwa criticized General Faiz’
In response to another question, Chief Minister Punjab said that Lieutenant General (R) Faiz Hameed was strongly against him and he did injustice to the party.
Recalling his memories, the PML-Q leader said his party was supporting General Bajwa on the issue of extension. Meanwhile, General Faiz directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief to arrest him and his son.
“Later, we called General Bajwa and then he spat (cursed) on General Faiz,” he added.
