The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Monday once again ordered the dismissal of all cases registered in the province against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati over his controversial tweets against military officials.
Justice Abdul Majeed Baloch issued these instructions during the hearing of the petition related to the new cases registered against the senator in Balochistan. Three cases were registered against Swati in Vander, Bela and Chaman.
This is the second time the High Court has ordered the dismissal of cases filed in the province over the senator’s controversial tweets.
On December 9, the BHC ordered the cancellation of all First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against the senator.
These orders were issued by the BHC on a petition filed by the senator’s son against the registration of cases in Balochistan. In Balochistan, five FIRs were registered against Swati in Kuchlak, Hub, Zhob and two other areas of the province.
Sindh High Court ordered not to register Cases.
Apart from this, the Sindh High Court has also ordered that no case be registered in the province against Azam Swati in the controversial tweets case.
Swati was handed over to Islamabad police custody. Sindh Prosecutor General Faiz Shah said that the cases registered against the senator have been kept in C class.
“All petitions are now ineffective,” the public prosecutor said, adding that the cases were filed by private citizens.
The court directed that no further FIR should be registered against Azam Swati in the case. It added that multiple cases were registered against Swati in different parts of the province on the same charge.
Controversial tweets cases
Several cases were registered across the country for Swati’s controversial tweets against military officials.
He was first arrested in October in connection with a controversial tweet, when he posted a hateful and threatening message against the army chief, judiciary and other state institutions on his official Twitter account.
In this case, the senator got bail.
But on November 27, the Federal Investigation Agency arrested him once again for using foul language against senior military officers, including the then Army Chief.
