To revive the 2014 constitution of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday formed an administrative committee and named former PCB chief Najam Sethi as its head.

The Executive Committee has been tasked with revoking the PCB Constitution 2019 approving the proposal in para 7 of the summary.

To initiate this process, the proposal and names of the persons included in the committee will be placed before the Federal Cabinet.

Other committee members nominated by the prime minister include star all-rounder Shahid Afridi, former Pakistan women’s captain Sana Mir, former Test cricketer Haroon Rashid and former cricketer Shafqat Rana.

Former PCB Board of Governors members Shakeel Sheikh, Gulzada, Nauman Butt, Ayaz Butt and Arif Saeed are also included in the committee.

Other members include Supreme Court advocate Mustafa Ramde, former president of Quetta Association Gul Muhammad, former president of Larkana Tanveer Ahmed and former director of National High Performance Center of PCB, Aiza Syed.

PCB Constitution 2019
The current PCB constitution, enacted by former PCB chief Ehsan Mani, does not allow the prime minister to remove or remove the current chairman of the board, after a three-fourths majority vote of no confidence by the governing board. It is the only way. The head of PCB should be removed.

While it is not clear whether current PCB chairman Ramiz Raja wants to step down from the board’s top post, reports of the prime minister considering a new chief have been doing the rounds for the past few days.

After Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan took over as Prime Minister in 2018, former PCB chief Najam Sethi resigned and Mina took over after his departure. After completing his three-year term, he declined an extension last year after which Ramiz Raja took control of the board.

If the Raja refuses to step down without the possibility of a no-confidence motion, there is no provision in the present constitution for such a situation.

However, Article 47 allows the ruling government to amend the constitution to expedite the appointment of a new chairman.
