ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League (Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Thursday terminated the party membership of Senator Kamil Ali Agha and removed him from the post of general secretary of the Muslim League (Q) Punjab.

Agha did not respond to the show-cause notice issued by the party chief for accepting the ‘illegal’ resolution impeaching Shujaat as party president.

Muslim League-Q Secretary General Tariq Bashir Cheema issued a notification to expel Agha from the party on the instructions of Shujaat and said that the Election Commission of Pakistan and Chairman Senate will also be asked to remove Kamil Ali Agha from the post of senator.

A press release issued by the party said that a show-cause notice was sent to Agha on August 4, 2022, seeking an explanation for holding a so-called party meeting on July 28, 2022 at Muslim League House Lahore.

Fault lines in the party were highlighted when Shujaat refused to support Elahi during the Punjab chief ministerial election, saying he would not support PTI chairman Imran Khan’s candidate – even if he Why not be his brother?

As a result, Elahi lost the election to PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz by 10 votes as he was rejected after Shujaat’s letter to former Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari.

But Hamza’s victory was short-lived as the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Elahi.

Following these developments, in late June, the PML-Q’s Central Working Committee (CWC) decided to remove party president Shujaat citing health issues.

Senator Kamil Ali Agha while talking to the media after the CWC meeting in Lahore said that it has become necessary to isolate Chaudhry Shujaat to save the party from destruction.

However, later the PML-Q Central Executive Committee expressed confidence in Shujaat’s leadership and decided to send a show-cause notice to Senator Agha and others for holding an “illegal meeting” in Lahore.

In January 2021, Shujaat was elected party president and Cheema as secretary.
