Army is determined to break terrorist facilitating nexus, Army chief on Pak-Afghan border visit

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir on Friday said that the army is committed to restore peace in the country and break the nexus that facilitates terrorists.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief’s comments came during a visit to the Pakistan-Afghan border in Miran Shah, North Waziristan.

The army chief, while interacting with troops stationed at the border, said the army is focused on improving the security situation and is “committed to waging war against terrorists and breaking the nexus with their facilitators.” Is”.

The COAS said, “Pakistan Army will consolidate the hard-won peace, made possible by the resilient Pakistani nation and the great sacrifices of the LEA (law enforcement agencies)”.

According to ISPR, during the visit, the field commanders apprised General Munir of the latest security situation in the area and the response measures to thwart the terror threat.

ISPR said, “The COAS also visited the frontline troops deployed along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Interacting with the officers and men, the COAS appreciated their professionalism, morale and operational excellence. Appreciate the preparations.”

Later, the Army Chief also visited the Special Services Group (SSG) headquarters in Tarbela, where he met the elite “Zarar Company” whose men were involved in the recent Banu Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) complex operation. Also worked bravely in aviation.

Appreciating their indomitable spirit, sacrifices and commitment to duty in various operations, the Army Chief said the SSG is the pride of the nation and has “proven its performance over the years”.

CTD operation
Last Sunday, militants seized a center of the counter-terrorism department in Bannu and took the officials hostage. The situation continued for three days as the authorities tried to negotiate with the militants.

However, on Tuesday, the facility was later cleared by SSGs of the Pakistan Army and as a result, 25 terrorists were killed, two arrested, and seven surrendered.

On the same day of the operation, three sepoys Subedar Major Khurshid Akram, Sepoy Saeed and Sepoy Babar were martyred and another Sepoy Haleem Khan embraced martyrdom a day before.
