The National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) said on Saturday that the novel coronavirus spreading in China poses a threat to Pakistan after Chinese authorities decided to end its “zero-COVID” regime.
According to NCOC, there is a risk that the new version could enter Pakistan after China’s decision to lift the lockdown and travel restrictions.
The rise in China comes weeks after Omicron made a sudden shift in policy, sparking protests against stricter restrictions on its laws to curb rising COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began three years ago. is loosening.
NCOC officials said that Pakistan is fully prepared to control the new variety. He said that the country has dealt with various cases of Covid in a timely manner in the past.
“The risk is low due to the inoculation of the COVID-19 vaccine,” he said, adding that 90 percent of the eligible population in Pakistan has been vaccinated.
Officials also said that about 95 percent of the population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
