Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday summoned all the MNAs of his party to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) House in Islamabad on December 28 and decided the strategy of their resignations.

PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry confirmed that the party chairman has called the meeting, adding that Imran Khan will address the MNEs through a video link from Zaman Park Lahore.

Sources said that the former prime minister and MNAs will discuss their strategy regarding resignations from the assembly.

The PTI had announced on December 22 to contact National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf and confirm his resignations. However, after the Punjab Governor de-notified the Punjab Chief Minister, he postponed this move.

Speaker re-summons MNEs.
On Thursday, the National Assembly Secretariat informed that the Speaker will call the MNAs of the party one by one back to his chamber.

The PTI members of the National Assembly will be called to confirm their resignations under paragraph (b) of sub-rule (2) of Rule 43 of the “Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in NA, 2007”.

According to an official statement, the NA Secretariat also responded to PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s letter, which he wrote on December 15.

The Speaker National Assembly received a letter from Qureshi for a meeting in which PTI submitted a request to accept all resignations. An appropriate reply will be given after consideration.

The Speaker said that the PTI legislators informed him not to accept the resignation.

In early June, the Speaker invited MNAs from the Imran Khan-led party to confirm their resignations, but none turned up.

Later in July, the Speaker accepted the resignations of 11 PTI members under Article 64(1) of the Constitution of Pakistan. The Raja had unsealed the resignations to decide his fate as per the constitution, law and rules.

The development comes weeks after a mass resignation of party lawmakers following the toppling of Imran Khan’s government by a no-confidence motion in April.
