ISLAMABAD: Leaked audios of top leaders continue to pollute the country’s political scene, a person has been detained for allegedly leaking audio of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
A media report claimed that a former employee of the Prime Minister’s House was found involved in the Prime Minister’s audio leaks, which has now been taken into custody by the law enforcement agency.
The report stated that the detained person was a member of the Prime Minister’s staff and a committee has been formed to investigate the suspect.
It should be noted that the audio of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was leaked in September and October this year.
Over the months, several audios purportedly showing government officials and PTI leaders discussing important matters at Prime Minister House surfaced on social media, after which the top government office Questions were raised on security.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan also demanded the formation of a JIT to investigate the case of bugging in the Prime Minister House.
The first tape, leaked in the last week of September, allegedly showed Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and a senior official. In it, Muslim League (N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz had a discussion with her uncle about ordering a power plant from India for her son-in-law.
In the second audio leak, the PM was allegedly heard talking to an unidentified person regarding the race to become the Special Assistant to the PM (SAPM).
On September 25, two more audio leaks took place on social media. One of them was related to the resignations of PTI legislators and the other was related to former finance minister Miftah Ismail.
However, on 11 October, Home Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the culprits behind the audio leak had been identified, adding that the method used to steal these sound bytes was not bugging but telephone tapping.
PTI audio leak
The first PTI-related audio was leaked on September 28, in which Khan allegedly asked his then principal secretary Azam Khan to “play” the US cipher.
A second PTI audio leak surfaced on September 30, allegedly exposing Khan’s conspiracy narrative.
In it, the then Prime Minister Khan, former Minister Asad Umar, and the then Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister were allegedly in a meeting discussing the American cipher and using it for their own (PTI) benefit. can be heard.
Later, the government upgraded cyber security SOPs at the Prime Minister’s House and issued new guidelines to prevent it in the future.
