Govt imposed Section 144 in Gwadar for a month.

The provincial government on Wednesday announced the imposition of Section 144 in the port city after a policeman was killed during a Haq Du movement protest, the home ministry said.

On Tuesday, Balochistan Home Minister Ziaullah Longu ordered the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Haq Du Tehreek Chairman Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman over the killing of a policeman.

According to the Balochistan Police, constable Yasir Saeed, who was assigned to protect the protestors, was martyred by the firing of the protestors at the sit-in of Haq Du Tehreek.

Under Section 144, jalsa, dharna and any other public gathering of more than five people has been banned. The government has also banned the display of weapons.

In reaction to the death of the constable, Chief Minister Balochistan directed the law enforcement agencies to arrest the accused involved in the incident. A report of the incident has been called, a special team has been ordered to be formed to arrest the accused.

“Such incidents are intolerable. The Home Minister said that an FIR should be registered against Chairman Haq Du Tehreek.

Coastal highway was blocked.

The Coastal Highway was blocked in protest near Sarbandan area of Gwadar on Monday after seven supporters of the Haq Du Tehreek, including their leader Hussain Wadala, were arrested by the police.

The protesters demanded a reduction in check posts, facilitation of cross-border trade and a complete end to deep-sea fish traffic in the sea off Gwadar.

The HDT had been protesting in Gwadar for about eight weeks under the leadership of Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman.

Balochistan government spokesperson Farah Azim had alleged that the protesters tried to block the Gwadar port after which the police arrested some of them while taking action.

He further said that the attitude of the movement is provocative.
