ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has refused to accept the government’s offer to form a long-term interim government.
Former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser said that the government offered PTI the formation of a long-term interim government. However, he said that no extra-constitutional demand would be entertained in any form.
Asad Qaiser said PTI is ready for talks if the government announces the date of elections.
He said that there is no provision in the constitution for a long-term interim government and such an extra-constitutional offer should be rejected in any case. He said that if the government gives the date of the election, then they are ready for negotiations.
He said that accepting the resignations of PTI legislators has become a political issue and is not constitutional. He said that PTI’s resigned MLAs are not getting salaries and other facilities since April.
Qaiser said that he had a detailed meeting with National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf on Thursday and asked him to accept the resignation immediately. He said that he told the Speaker of the National Assembly that Qasim Suri had accepted the resignations and they were to be sent to the Election Commission.
The PTI leader said that he had asked the speaker of the National Assembly whether he had accepted the resignations of 11 members of the assembly one by one. Qaiser said the Speaker of the National Assembly told him that these 11 lawmakers had tweeted him about their resignations.
Former Speaker National Assembly told him that he had also tweeted Raja Pervez Ashraf. He said that the government does not want to accept the resignations of PTI MNAs.
Qaiser claimed that the government was afraid of holding elections. He said that the government delayed the local body elections in Islamabad and now plans to delay the local body elections in Sindh as well. He said that PDM wants power whether it can run the country or not. He said that the Speaker of the National Assembly has told him that some PTI members have asked him not to accept the resignation.
Qaiser said that former MNAs can use Parliament lodges till new MNAs are elected. He said that the parliamentary seats of 11 MNAs who resigned have been vacated. How the month of January will pass in the current economic situation is beyond their understanding.
