MQM-P threatened to leave coalition govt over issue of constituencies in Karachi and Hyderabad

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), an ally of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), on Sunday threatened to topple the ruling Center at the Center if it “re-delimits” constituencies for local elections. The allies will leave the government and start protesting. Karachi and Hyderabad will not be held before January 15.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced that local elections in Karachi and Hyderabad will be held on January 15.

In the meeting chaired by MQMP Coordination Committee convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, it was decided to take a tough stand on the issue of constituencies and the non-serious attitude of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government in Sindh. In the meeting, various measures including protest and conveying their grievances to the federal government were also considered.

Addressing the press conference after the coordination committee meeting, MQMP convener urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to fulfill the promises made to the party.

He announced that if our grievances were not redressed, we would be forced to protest.

Siddiqui said, “In the agreement with the PPP, our main point was fair delimitation of constituencies for the LG elections. Describing the current delimitation of constituencies as inappropriate, the MQMP leader said that this The pre-election rigging is clear.

He said that in this situation, the party has to decide whether to fight the election together with the allied parties or fight the election independently.

In a separate statement, Governor Sindh Kamran Tesori said that he was trying to bring together all factions of the MQM.

Emphasizing the need for unity, Tesori said that everyone needs to fix their intentions.

He warned that when political parties create chaos in their ranks, they are doomed.

Sindh Governor also said that he has asked the People’s Party to fulfill the promises made with the MQMP. He further said that if PPP does not fulfill its promises, then MQM will be free to decide.
