Modest Mouse drummer and co-founder Jeremiah Green died on Saturday, December 31, 2022 after a battle with cancer.
The musician’s death was announced by Modest Mouse in an emotional social media post on New Year’s Eve. The rocker is survived by his wife Lauren and their son Wilder.
“I don’t know how to make it any easier: today we lost our dear friend Jeremiah. He laid down to rest and passed out easily,” the band wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of Green.
“I would like to say so many beautiful words right now, but now is not the time. Those will come later, and from many people. Please appreciate all the love you give, receive, give and See you. Above all, Jeremiah was about love. We love you.”
Green’s mother, Carol Namatum, initially revealed her son had stage 4 cancer in a Facebook post on Christmas Day, according to Page Six.
“Please send healing vibes to my son, Jeremiah Green, who is battling stage 4 cancer. He is so strong and so brave and hanging in there! Namatame wrote alongside photos of his son.
After his demise, Namtam broke the sad news. “It is with heavy hearts that the Green and Bereaved family announce the passing of their husband, father, son and brother, Jeremiah Green,” they wrote.

Green co-founded Modest Mouse in 1992 with lead singer Isaac Brock and bassist Eric Judy. He performed with Modest Mouse until 2003, when he chose to leave the band. Green’s hiatus lasted only a year and rejoined his bandmates in 2004.
