Paresh Rawal will be seen playing a Bengali character in his next film.

The film is a tribute to legendary writer Satyajit Ray’s short story Golpo Bolo Tarini Khoro. His character is very interesting as that of a storyteller who is hired to tell stories to a high-ranking businessman who suffers from insomnia.

The film will be presented for world premiere at an international film festival. The controversy started when the actor made racist comments about Bengalis during an election campaign in Gujarat. He said, “Gas cylinders are expensive, but they will come down in price. People will also get jobs. But what if Rohingya refugees and Bangladeshis start living around you like in Delhi? What about gas cylinders?” Will you? Cook fish?” For Bengalis?”

Parrish’s remarks were dismissed as unfounded and he was widely called out on social media for uncharacteristic racism. However, admitting his mistakes, he said, “It was a slip of the tongue, and what I said was misinterpreted. I really didn’t mean to hurt anyone. It pains me to know that Bengali people whose art, cinema and literature. I looked up, misunderstood me.”
