Prince Harry hits out at lack of royal defense for Meghan after Jeremy Clarkson column

Prince Harry has accused the royal family of failing to defend his wife Meghan in the controversy over Jeremy Clarkson’s newspaper column.

In an interview, the Duke of Sussex said the “silence” about the Sun’s “appalling” article last month was deafening.

He countered this with an impromptu post-race fight at a Buckingham Palace reception.

Prince Harry also said he did not believe racist comments made by an unidentified royal about the color of his son’s skin.

Clarkson’s article about Meghan described how the columnist “dreamed of the day she would be paraded naked through the streets of every town in Britain while crowds chanted ‘shame on you'”. have been. And throw lumps of glands on it.”

Later removed by The Sun and prompting an apology from the paper and Mr Clarkson, Prince Harry described the article as “horrific and hurtful and cruel to my wife”.

“The world is demanding some kind of comment from the monarchy. But the silence is deafening. To put it mildly,” he said.

“Everything to do with my wife, after six years, she hasn’t said a word.”

The prince likened the lack of royal response to the article to the events that followed a clash between Lady Susan Hussey and Ngozi Fulani at Buckingham Palace just three weeks ago.

Ms Fulani, the founder of a black British charity, was a guest at an event hosted by the Queen’s consort, Camilla.

He is repeatedly challenged by Lady Hussey about where he is “really from” – and Ms Fulani complains how the exchange offends her.

The controversy prompted an immediate apology from the palace and a personal meeting between the two women was arranged.

The palace issued a statement calling the remarks “unacceptable and deeply regrettable”. Lady Hussey eventually resigned as lady of the house.

Speaking to interviewer Tom Bradby ahead of the publication of his memoir Spear this Tuesday, Prince Harry defended Lady Hussey, saying she “never meant any harm”.

But he pointed to the difference between the treatment of Ms Fulani and his wife after the language Jeremy Clarkson used about them.

The interview returned to Prince Harry and Meghan’s previous claim – made in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey – that a member of the royal family had raised questions about the skin color of their future child.

Prince Harry again did not name the individual – and suggested it could be a case of “unconscious bias” rather than racism.

Asked if he would see the question as racist, he said: “I wouldn’t, I didn’t live in that family.”
