A District and Sessions Court in Islamabad on Wednesday summoned the lawyer of Shahnawaz Aamir, the main accused in the Sarah Inam murder case, to cross-examine witnesses at the next hearing — who did not attend today’s hearing.
Prosecutor Rana Hassan Abbas and counsel for the plaintiff Rao Abdul Rahim appeared in the court. Meanwhile, Shahnawaz was also produced in the court today. The deceased’s father, Inam-ur-Rahim, was also present.
During today’s hearing, the court recorded the statement of female constable Shakeela Kausar.
In her statement, Shakeela said that she reached the crime scene at 10:40 PM where Shahnawaz was present.
“Shahnawaz admitted that he had killed his ex-wife Sarah Inam and also admitted that her body was in the bathtub,” he said.
The woman constable said that the deceased’s husband took the body to the police himself. “He also told the police about the dumbbell that was hidden under the couch and it was covered in Sarah’s blood,” he added.
At that time, a team from the National Forensic Science Agency (NFSA) reached the spot, he said.
Shakila said that the police shifted the body of the victim in an ambulance to the Polyclinic Hospital where the post-mortem was conducted.
He said that I gave Sarah Inam’s clothes to the investigating officer.
The court also recorded the statement of the in-charge of the crime scene, Mohammad Rizwan.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till January 18.
The case
Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on Friday (September 23) on the complaint of Station House Officer (SHO) Nawaz Ali Khan. .
The FIR states that Samina Shah, mother of the accused, called the police on Friday (September 23) and told them that her son Shahnawaz had killed his wife with a dumbbell.
According to the FIR, Samina told the police that her son was in the house and had hidden the body of his wife. After which the police raided the house.
In the complaint, the police said that Shahnawaz had locked himself in his room and when officials entered, there were blood stains on his hands and clothes.
Once the police nabbed Shahnawaz, according to the FIR, he confessed to repeatedly hitting his wife with a dumbbell during an argument and later hiding the body of the Canadian national in the bathtub.
Shahnawaz was quoted in the FIR as saying that the “murder weapon” was hidden under his bed. After police examined the dumbbell, they allegedly found blood and hair on it. They later sent it for forensics.
