The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday decided to reduce the electricity rates for K-Electric (KE) customers by Rs 7.43 per unit as part of the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for November 2022.
In its petition filed with Nepra, K Electric had sought a tariff reduction of Rs 7.043 per kWh. The regulator held a public hearing on 27 December 2022 and approved a reduction of Rs 7.43 per unit.
The FCA for November 2022 will appear in the billing month of January 2023. The tariff reduction will be applicable to all categories of consumers except:
- Lifeline customers
- Household customers using up to 300 units.
- Agricultural consumers
- Users of electric vehicle charging stations
The regulator clarified that the negative adjustment will apply to domestic consumers who have Time of Use (ToU) meters irrespective of their consumption levels.
“This adjustment will be reflected in the consumer’s bills separately based on the units billed to the consumer in the respective month,” the notification reads.
Meanwhile, the power regulator has increased the power tariff for ex-WAPDA distribution companies (XWDISCOs) by Rs 0.1892 per kWh.
The adjustment will be reflected in January 2023 bills as well and will apply to all consumer categories except
- Electric vehicle charging stations
- Lifeline customers
The impact of this increase will be around Rs 1.75 billion including 17% general sales tax. Meanwhile, the impact of power cuts for K Electric will be over Rs 11 billion, but will not be passed on to Lifeline customers.
