Writer/lyricist Javed Akhtar recently recalled an incident where a man once greeted him at the airport saying he was Gulzar. The latter did not correct him and left him confused.
Javed narrated this incident during the launch ceremony of Jaduname, a book written by Arvind Mandaloi on Javed. He was called on stage with Gulzar Sahib.
The Yesterday Ho Naa Ho song writer revealed: “Me and Shabana were at the airport, when the airline staff asked us to sit down and said they would take our luggage. Shabana was sitting next to me when a man came to me. came and said, ‘Adaab Gulzar Saab!’
“He then wondered, ‘How is Gulzar Saab at the airport?’ I told him that Javed Akhtar is coming, so I am here to welcome him!
Akhtar added: “They were confused that such a big man had come to get Javed Akhtar? He asked me with desperation in his voice, ‘You have come here to pick up Javed Akhtar? I replied, ‘I always come. Wherever Javed Akhtar is coming from, I always welcome him at the airport.
The man said in frustration and confusion: “Well… let’s go Gulzar saab”.
According to JEE News report, Gulzar started laughing after hearing the incident narrated by the 77-year-old writer.
According to Javed Akhtar, it’s not that the two look the same, it’s just that people of average intelligence today use brains like Kabkhana.
