At least three policemen, including an officer, were martyred in an exchange of fire with terrorists who attacked a police station in Peshawar overnight, JEE News reported on Saturday.
Terrorists attacked Sarband police station in the outskirts of the city with hand grenades in the dark of night as a result of which DSP Budh Bir Sardar Hussain and two of his bodyguards were martyred.
Senior Superintendent of Police Operations Kashif Aftab Abbasi confirmed that Sarband police station was attacked with grenades and sniper guns equipped with night vision thermal goggles.
SSP Operations said that the terrorists attacked the police stations from two to three sides. He said that at least six to eight terrorists were involved in the attack. He said that at least 12 to 14 policemen were present in the police station at the time of the attack.
The terrorists hurled five grenades inside the police station premises, SSP Operations said. He said that four grenades were defused while one was detonated.
The police official said that the terrorists managed to escape after the attack. He added that the search operation has been stopped and will be resumed during the day to trace the attackers.
The police repelled the terrorists about two hours after they launched the attack at around 1 am.
As soon as the information about the terrorist attack was received, the police team reached the spot. The police spokesman says that the entire area has been cordoned off after the attack.
Additional police forces and armored personnel carriers also rushed to the flashpoint.

According to CCPO Ejaz Khan, after the attack, DSP Sardar Hussain rushed to the riot spot.
The DSP parked his car in Shahab Khel and walked towards Sarband police station. However, they fell victim to the sniper guns of the terrorists.
The DSP and his two gunmen, Irshad and Jahanzeb, died on the spot. All of them suffered bullet wounds on their heads and bodies.
The police shifted the bodies to the hospital and with the help of APCs started cordoning off the area around the Sarband police station for the terrorists. However, there is no report of arrest or death of any terrorist so far.
