KARACHI: The Sindh government launched the first electric bus service route under its People’s Bus Service Program on Friday.

The electric bus will take the passengers from Karachi Airport to Sea View.

Sindh Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon along with Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Labor Minister Saeed Ghani inaugurated the bus service.

They reviewed the facilities in the service and also took their first ride in the bus.

This is Pakistan’s first electric bus service, which is being launched from Karachi today. These are eco-friendly buses, which will run on electricity. Mr. Memon said while talking to reporters.

He said there was no bus service for people intending to go to the airport (from Seaview, Clifton) and had to use private vehicles or cabs which cost around Rs 1,500. “But in this EV bus service, they can now travel to the airport for just Rs 50,” he said.

European standard buses capable of traveling 240 km on a single charge will not cause any pollution.

The bus service is starting from Tank Chowk near Jinnah Avenue and will pass through Airport, Sharia Faisal, FTC, Korangi Road, Khayaban Ittihad and reach the clock tower of Sea View.
