Peshawar: Former President of Supreme Court Bar Association Latif Afridi was shot dead by 6 bullets in Peshawar High Court (PHC).
The senior lawyer was shifted to Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital but the facility said the senior lawyer was dead on arrival. The hospital administration further said that Afridi was hit by 6 bullets.
According to the police, the attacker is in their custody. He has been identified as Adnan.
Police are investigating how the gunman managed to enter the High Court premises despite security.
SSP Operations Kashif Abbasi said that the attacker Adnan son of Abdul Sami Afrid has been detained.
He said that it seems to be a case of personal enmity between the two families while further investigation is underway.
Asked about the security arrangements at the high court, the police official said they were reviewing it and action would be taken if any lapses were found.
It should be noted that Afridi was granted bail in 2021 in the case of the murder of Swat Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) judge Aftab Afridi and three members of his family.
He was booked along with nine others in the judge’s murder case but filed for anticipatory bail.
According to details, Aftab, his wife, one-and-a-half-year-old grandson and daughter-in-law were going to Islamabad from Peshawar via Swabi when unknown assailants attacked their vehicle near Ambar Interchange in April 2021.
However, then SCBA president Latif denied his involvement in the incident and said that he and his son were falsely implicated in the case. He also assured the authorities of full cooperation with the concerned institutions.
