Charsadda: Two policemen were martyred in a terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Charsadda district, police confirmed on Saturday.
In the latest attack on law enforcers, terrorists opened fire on a police post in Dheri Zardad, Charsadda District Police Officer Sohail Khalid told JEE News.
Three policemen were injured in the attack, who were shifted to a nearby hospital. However, two policemen succumbed to their injuries while one is undergoing treatment in hospital.
Dheri Zardad comes at a time when Pakistan is grappling with increasing terrorist attacks – particularly from the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and from across the Afghan border.
After the TTP reportedly regrouped in Afghanistan after the Taliban took over, Pakistan repeatedly asked the neighboring country’s interim government to ensure its territory was not used for terrorism. But the Taliban-led government could not live up to expectations.
According to data provided by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, militant activity has been mainly concentrated in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, accounting for 31 percent of attacks during the past year and 67 percent of attacks since then.
The attack comes two days after at least three police personnel were killed in a terrorist attack on a police post in KP’s Khyber Agency.
Police in the area say that the terrorists opened fire at the check post in Takhta Beg and used explosives in the attack, after which the police station caught fire.
Speaking to journalists, SHO Shah Khalid of Jamrod termed the storm at the police post as a suicide attack. “The suicide bomber entered the check post and blew himself up.”
Two policemen, Manzoor Shah and Younis Khan, were martyred in the attack, while the cook at the checkpoint, identified as Rafiq, was rushed to a hospital in Peshawar where he succumbed to his injuries.
