A case was registered against 12 PTI leaders and activists, including former MPA and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Abdul Wahid Qasim, on Wednesday for blocking GT Road on the call of party chairman Imran Khan.

The police have also named 170 unknown persons as suspects in the case.

The case was registered on charges of unlawful assembly and obstructing GT Road, one of the country’s main highways, in November during the protests following the assassination of former prime minister Imran Khan at Mandira police station. was

A day after the attack, protesters blocked Rawalpindi’s GT Road on both sides, disrupting traffic in the area during a demonstration to condemn the attack on the PTI leader on November 3.

This resulted in nationwide protests, with the PTI holding demonstrations in major cities including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, Malakand, Rajanpur, Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh and Kohat among others.

In his speech, the PTI chairman urged his followers to continue protesting till the resignation of Rana Sanaullah, Shehbaz Sharif and an army major, alleging that they had planned their assassination.

Protests in the twin cities turned violent.
Later, Khan’s supporters also protested at the Faizabad Interchange in Rawalpindi against the assassination attempt on him.

The Islamabad police fired teargas shells intermittently to disperse the protesters in the area who pelted stones at the police and the Frontier Corps (FC). Meanwhile, Islamabad Police and FC arrested several PTI workers in Islamabad. Murree Road in Rawalpindi was closed for traffic.

Attack on Imran Khan
Khan narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in a firing incident in Wazirabad — where his convoy halted during the PTI’s latest long march — injuring both his legs.

Apparently fired by a lone shooter, a bullet went through Khan’s shin. The assailant was arrested on the spot and in a video released after the arrest, he confessed to shooting Khan dead.

Khan, 70, was ousted as prime minister in April, six days into a mile-long protest, standing and waving to thousands of cheering supporters from the roof of a container truck when gunshots rang out.
