A local court in Karachi on Thursday indicted Dania Shah, widow of slain televangelist Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain, for spreading compromising videos of her slain husband.
However, the accused did not confess to the crime. She told the court that it was all a conspiracy against her as she wanted the post-mortem of her slain husband.
The court issued a notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) while the trial will begin on February 2.
Daniya was arrested by the FIA Cyber Crime Wing in December 2022 from Lodhran in South Punjab for allegedly leaking and viralizing private videos of Aamir Liaquat without his consent.
In this regard, a complaint was filed on behalf of Aamir Liaquat’s first wife Bushra’s daughter.
Shah was first produced before Judicial Magistrate South and received his physical remand.
The magistrate asked the FIA to explain how they had jurisdiction to hear the case. The magistrate said that the incident took place near Tariq Road in Karachi, so the accused should be produced in the concerned court.
The FIA prosecutor said that this is a case of cyber crime.
The video was viewed everywhere, so there is no jurisdictional issue. The prosecutor argued.
The accused recorded a video of a private moment from the victim’s bedroom and then posted it online to make it viral, the investigating officer of the case said.
He requested the remand of the accused for further investigation.
The prosecutor added that the accused was part of a larger gang and was not acting alone.
After hearing the arguments, the court directed the FIA to produce it in the concerned court of District East.
She was then produced before District Magistrate East, who rejected the FIA’s request for physical remand.
Instead, the court sent him to jail on judicial remand.
