ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police on Friday withdrew security from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan’s residence in the federal capital, Bani Gala.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Home Department has also written a letter to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to recall the provincial police from the former prime minister’s house in Lahore’s Zaman Town.

Bani Gala is the private residence of the former Prime Minister. He has not been staying in Islamabad for the past several months,” a police spokesperson in the capital told JEE News about the reason for the security withdrawal.

In Khan’s absence, the spokesperson said that police from Islamabad and other provinces cannot be deployed there.

Sources said that a Deputy Superintendent of Police and 170 policemen were posted at Khan’s Islamabad house. Security personnel will be on duty in different shifts at Banigala.

According to sources, Frontier Corps and KP Police were also withdrawn. Sources said that 50 policemen of KPK have also left while performing duty at PTI chief’s Banigala house.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Home Department has also written a letter to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government that the KP police should be recalled from the former prime minister’s house in Zaman Town, Lahore.

In a letter to the KP government, the department said that 50 security personnel — who were called to Lahore on November 10 last year — could be called to Khan’s residence again if required.

‘I have powerful enemies’

Earlier this week, the ousted prime minister – whose government was sent home after a no-confidence vote – expressed fears for his safety.

“Right now, I’m afraid, I have powerful enemies. The entire political establishment is against me,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg.

Khan has blamed Prime Minister Shehbaz Shehbaz, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and a domestic intelligence officer for the attack on him in November last year, however, their claims have been categorically denied.

Khan was injured in the assassination attack on him. After the attack, the PTI chairman repeatedly made allegations and spoke openly about possible threats to his life.

The PTI chief’s party also expressed apprehension of his arrest, citing reports circulating about the possibility. Security officials had already detained PTI senior vice-president Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday.
