ISLAMABAD: A District and Sessions Court on Friday ordered authorities to produce Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry in court by 12:30 pm as the police sought physical remand of Judicial Magistrate Waqas Ahmad Raja. I challenged the extension decision a day ago. .
In their petition, the police requested the sessions judge to set aside the judicial magistrate’s decision and extend Fawad’s physical remand for further investigation.
The directions were issued by Sessions Judge Tahir Mehmood Khan on a police plea challenging the order of the Judicial Magistrate, who on Friday sent the PTI leader to 14-day judicial remand and extended the remand in the sedition case registered against him. The police’s request was rejected.
Fawad was arrested from his residence in Lahore on Wednesday after a case was registered in Kohsar police station on the complaint of ECP Secretary Umar Hameed.
After the remand period ended, he was produced in the court on Friday, but the prosecution’s request for extension was rejected.
At the beginning of the hearing today, Sessions Judge Khan issued a notice to the parties and adjourned the hearing till 10 am.
