ISLAMABAD: Tremors of a magnitude 6.3 earthquake were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and surrounding areas including Dhirkot in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the National Seismic Monitoring Center (NSMC) confirmed on Sunday.
However, no loss of life or property was reported.
This was the second earthquake in a month after the magnitude 5.8 earthquake hit different parts of Pakistan on January 5.
According to the details, the tremors of the earthquake were felt for a few seconds and its tremors also shook the neighboring countries of Iran and Afghanistan. The epicenter of the earthquake was Tajikistan at a depth of 150 km, the seismological center said.
Moderate earthquake tremors in different parts of Pakistan
On January 5, a moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.8 shook parts of Pakistan and caused no casualties.
However, the US Geological Survey claimed that the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.5 on the Richter scale.
Seismological center says that earthquake shocks were felt in Gilgit, Jhelum, Chakwal, Pakpattan, Lucky Marwat, Nowshera, Swat, Malakand, Azad Kashmir and other areas of the country.
According to the Seismological Center, the epicenter of this earthquake was the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, while its depth was 173 km.
The effects of the earthquake were also felt in Peshawar, Lower Dir, Chitral, Khyber District, Waziristan, Tank, Bajaur, Mardan, Parachinar, Murree, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Multan, Sheikhupura, Chiniot and Kotli.
Mild earthquake tremors in Punjab
NSMC said that a day earlier, a low-magnitude earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck parts of Punjab at 3:04 pm.
Earthquake tremors were felt in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Muridke, Farooqabad, Gujranwala, Sharqpur, Jardanwala and other areas of the province.
NSMC confirmed that the epicenter was 20 km from Sheikhupura.
