Sheikh Rashid’s approach to High Court to stop his transfer to Karachi

ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Saturday sought an injunction from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against his transfer from the federal capital to Karachi.

The former interior minister – who is a close aide of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan – is facing three separate cases filed recently in Murree, Islamabad and Karachi against former President Asif Ali Zardari. Accusations of conspiracy to murder were made against, threats were made to the police. Officials and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto make “offensive” and “dirty” comments against Zardari respectively.

Rashid is currently in police custody since his arrest from Murree Motorway on February 2 in the first case.

This petition was filed by Rashid through his lawyer Sardar Abdul Razzaq Khan.

“The respondents should be restrained from transferring the petitioner from Islamabad to Karachi pending disposal of the constitutional petition immediately,” the petition said.

Police are trying to shift Rashid to Murree.
Meanwhile, the Murree police have reached a local court in Islamabad, where they will seek Rashid’s interim remand in another case of alleged interference in government affairs.

The FIR of the case – was registered under Section 154 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Investigating Officer Ashiq Ali of Abpara Police Station, Islamabad, which stated that Rashid had threatened the policemen and said: They will not leave them.

Rashid will be produced in court today.
The former minister is scheduled to be produced in a judicial magistrate’s court in Islamabad as his two-day physical remand ends today in the case against the former president.

During today’s hearing in the court of Judicial Magistrate Umar Shabbir, the prosecution will inform the court about Rashid’s photography and voice matching test.

Lawsuits against PTI will not improve economy
PTI leader Faisal Javed Khan while talking to the media in Islamabad said that Sheikh Rashid is being targeted for raising the voice of truth.

“Filing cases against us will not improve the economy,” he said, adding that he was ready to show solidarity with Rashid.

Javed added that the government offers talks but on the other hand, cases are being framed against PTI leaders and allies.

He said his party has already proposed a solution to the quagmire, which is to “announce an election date”.

The PTI leader said that unemployment and inflation are breaking records today. The only solution is elections.

Apart from this, Javed said that with every passing day, the freedom of press is being restricted and the rights of journalists are being violated.

He added that whoever speaks the truth and exposes the government’s incompetence is threatened.

Arrest.
The police claimed to have arrested Rashid on the morning of February 2 from Murree Road. However, the former interior minister and his nephew Sheikh Rashid Shafiq denied the police’s position and said that the authorities had detained him from his house in Rawalpindi. No motorway.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Rawalpindi Division President Raja Inayat-ur-Rehman had registered a case against Rashid at Islamabad’s Abpara police station, alleging that former President Asif Ali Zardari had killed the PTI chief. They are plotting.

The FIR further stated that Rashid wants to disrupt the fight between PTI and PPP and the peace of the country with his allegations.

The PPP leader added that the AML chief claimed to have important information about the “conspiracy” to kill the PTI chief.

“If so, the police should arrest the two leaders under Sections 150 and 151 and foil the conspiracy to prevent the spread of unrest in the country,” he added.

Three sections – 120B (criminal conspiracy), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), and 505 (statements inciting public disorder) – have been added to the FIR.

Besides, the police told the journalists that a bottle of alcohol and a weapon were recovered from Rashid’s possession. The police also said that the former home minister was ‘intoxicated’ when he was arrested.

He was initially arrested by the Murree police, later they handed him over to the Islamabad police, who shifted him to the Abpara police station, where a case has been registered.

Rashid is also embroiled in another case of “illegal possession” as the Abandoned Property Board (ETPB) sealed Lal Haveli — his residence — and five adjoining units on January 30. On the same day, the Lahore High Court ordered the sealing of the property.

The former minister was shifted to the Secretariat Police Station after a medical check-up at the Polyclinic Hospital.
