According to a report by JEE News, Twitter is looking to further monetize its platform by charging businesses $1,000 a month to maintain their verified status.
Brands that don’t pay the monthly fee could reportedly lose their certified badges, though it’s unclear when that will happen.
Internal messages seen by the outlet also indicate that Twitter may charge an additional $50 per month for each linked account to display the badge.
The social media giant recently launched its own verification program for organizations, which allows companies to verify their identity and display badges for related accounts, such as employees and executives.
The latest changes come as Twitter CEO Elon Musk implements a series of measures to boost revenue and tackle the company’s $12.5 billion in debt.
These include charging users $8 a month for verified statuses and forcing developers to pay for access to Twitter’s API.
The company is also auctioning off assets, including office furniture, after allegedly failing to pay rent at several locations, including its San Francisco headquarters.
Twitter has yet to officially announce pricing information for its Confirm for Organization subscription, and the company has yet to respond.
However, a screenshot of an email between Twitter product manager Evan Jones and a business confirms $1,000 a month for verified statuses and $50 for each additional linked account.
Twitter is reportedly emailing businesses offering gold check mark verification for $1000 PER MONTH!
