KARACHI: The body of former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf reached Karachi Airport from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after several delays in the ground flight.
Earlier today, the deceased was given a ghusl (bath and shroud before burial) at Sonapur, Dubai, where he breathed his last at the age of 79.
The body of the former army chief departed from Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport and landed at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport at 9:45 PM.
The deceased’s body was accompanied by the former army chief’s widow and her children in a special flight with call sign MLM 567.
Aircraft A319 was tasked to carry the last remains of the former army chief and the aircraft was given a “special flight” status. This craft complex is owned by Aviation Malta and is approximately 14 years old.
On arrival, the plane was parked near the old terminal at the airport. The body and the victim’s family were then transported to their destination from the old terminal under tight security.
The bereaved family formally approached the Pakistani consulate in Dubai on Sunday and sought permission to repatriate Pervez Musharraf’s body.
It should be noted that the former president’s mother was buried in Dubai while his father was buried in Karachi.
Sources have also reported that the funeral prayer of the former president will be offered tomorrow (Tuesday) at 1:45 PM at Polo Ground, Malir Cantt, Karachi.
It should be noted that General (retd) Musharraf died yesterday in Dubai where he was undergoing treatment at the American Hospital in Dubai for a long time.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo Nawaz Sharif and other politicians prayed for the forgiveness of the former president – who has not returned home since 2016.
