ISLAMABAD: A joint session of Parliament will be held today to express solidarity with the people of India’s illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) for their right to self-determination.
Through a resolution – tabled by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari – the joint session will demand that India withdraw the illegal and unilateral action of August 5, 2019 and subsequent actions. Lawmakers will also demand implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions so that Kashmiris can determine their future through an impartial UN-sponsored referendum.
The joint meeting will also express serious concern over the presence of over 900,000 Indian forces, which has made IIOJ&K one of the most heavily militarized regions in the world.
Both Houses will also condemn the impunity with which the Indian forces continue to commit grave human rights violations under brutal laws that violate the principles of justice in the occupied territory.
According to the agenda issued by the National Assembly Secretariat, the approval of the Protection of Parents Bill 2022 and the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2022 will also be approved in the joint session.
Two bills passed by the National Assembly but not passed by the Senate within 90 days shall be considered together under Clause (3) of Article 70 of the Constitution.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Murtaza Javed Abbasi will move the movement to create national consensus and awareness.
The agenda also states that issues of national importance including economic policy, Jammu and Kashmir issue, respect for national institutions, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, population explosion, effects of climate change and foreign policy will be discussed in the parliament. .
