LAHORE: Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman on Thursday told the Lahore High Court (LHC) that he is not responsible for announcing the date of elections in the province after the dissolution of the assembly.
The Governor, in his reply, said, “It is vehemently denied that respondent No. 1 was in any way bound to fix the date of the elections when he ever followed the so-called advice of the Chief Minister. did not dissolve the assembly.” The LHC
In his eight-page reply, Governor Rehman also denied the allegations that he was “obstructing the Election Commission of Pakistan in the performance of its duties” and termed them as “false”.
The High Court is hearing petitions filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a private citizen, Muneer Ahmed, for the date of general elections in Punjab. In this regard, the former ruling party approached the court after the governor refused to fix the date of the elections despite the letter of the Election Commission.
Governor Rehman also asked the court to dismiss PTI’s plea with penalty, adding that they are discharging their responsibilities as per law and constitution.
