“Whatever happened, as things stand now, it was not the US that asked Pakistan [to expel me], it is unfortunately, from the evidence that has emerged, General (R) Bajwa. who somehow managed to tell the Americans that I am anti-American. And so this [plan to oust me] was not imported from there but exported from here to there,” the PTI chairman told the US. told the publication.
According to Imran Khan, the “problem” arose when General Bajwa “supported some of the biggest crooks in this country”.
He claimed that the former army chief wanted his government to turn a blind eye to corruption, the “biggest problem”, and work with corrupt leaders, “giving them immunity from their corruption cases”.
Khan said the new military leadership had realized that the “regime change experiment had failed”.
He said that I am sure that the new military leadership has a feeling that this experiment of regime change has gone wrong.
The PTI chief asserted that elected governments should have authority as well as responsibility and if this is not the case, the country’s system fails.
“The main principle of balance [of power] is that an elected government that has responsibility, mandated by the people through their vote, must also have authority,” Khan added.
He said that responsibility and authority cannot be separated and therefore a system cannot work if “the two things are not in the same person”.
“If the authority rests with the army chief, [but] the responsibility rests with the prime minister, no administrative system works.”
