LAHORE: The Lahore High Court dismissed the petitions of 97 law officers, including Advocate General Punjab Ahmed Owais, appointed by the former PTI government.

While upholding the decision on the appointment of supervisory law officers of Punjab, the bench set aside the notification of 19 new law officers who had retained their posts in the previous government headed by then Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz.

A five-judge bench headed by Justice Ali Baqer Najafi heard several petitions challenging the caretaker government’s removal of law officers appointed by the PTI government.

A four-judge bench unanimously ruled in favor of the caretaker government’s decision, with Justice Asim Hafeez writing a dissenting note.

Punjab Advocate General Ahmed Owais and other law officers challenged his removal by the caretaker government, arguing that he was illegally removed by the caretaker setup.

On the other hand, representatives of the caretaker government claimed that the speakers of the previous government were removed by law. The bench reserved the verdict after hearing the detailed arguments of all the parties. The bench pronounced the verdict on Tuesday.
